Have Fun with a Fall Floral Arrangement
Some people decorate their homes full of skeletons and bright orange pumpkins in the Fall…I am not one of those people! To each their own, but I prefer a more subtle take on the season. Since remodeling our 101-year-old farmhouse a few years ago, I have enjoyed experimenting with new seasonal décor. One of my personal favorite ways to decorate for fall is to lean into the Fall color palette using Fall floral arrangements. Sometimes I will use fresh flowers from my garden, but realistic faux flowers and stems will work too. Let’s have fun with a Fall floral arrangement!
Tip #1
Use Styrofoam for putting together your faux floral arrangement! Then, you can use the same box for each easy-to-make floral arrangement. When the season is over, you just lift them out to be stored and replace it with the next one!
I have this Fall floral arrangement on top of an armoire in our family room. Using the Styrofoam keeps the arrangement looking full and you never have to worry about things falling out of place. I love the mix of fall colored leaves and goldenrod stems mixed with tall vines to add height!
Tip #2
I love height in a centerpiece! It makes a statement. But that height can easily get in the way of mealtime conversation, so be sure to move it out of the way beforehand!
Include some conversation friendly table décor that can left on the table once the centerpiece is removed. Bright orange pumpkins may not be my style, but these ceramic pumpkins add just the right amount of seasonal feel and color to the table for eating and conversation.
Tip #3
Display what you love, and think about how to use your collectibles in new ways.
For as long as I can remember I have collected pitchers for vases. The washstand pitcher from the centerpiece above is my favorite! I remember looking at it on a chest in my grandmother’s upstairs hall. From her Foursquare farm home across the road from my farm home, this pitcher is perfect for floral arrangements year round. To add to the Fall feel, I used a Fall-colored gingham runner. Then, wax candle pumpkins and fruit are strewn on the runner with miniature pumpkins for a vintage tabletop feel.
Tip #4
I like to raise the height of a vase with a classic carved wood base. It adds height to the arrangement and makes the pitcher or vase even more special! I found this green Majolica pitcher at my favorite vintage country store, Sisters Garden and Bloom. It has been one of my favorite kitchen island choices to hold my floral arrangements.
For this Fall floral arrangement, I cut some late summer and early fall flowers from my garden. Delphiniums, phlox, zinnias, wildflowers, and sunflowers made the perfect mix!
Tip #4
Choose color schemes that make sense to you! If you don’t love the reds and oranges traditionally thought of with fall, go for earthy browns and greens. Florals for your living area tabletops can be as easy as that! Here is my favorite porcelain cache pot which holds a humble twig sphere with faux ivy.
I also love using deep green and light brown fabrics in our living room. All I needed on this table was a simple arrangement to reinforce my color scheme.
Tip #5
When creating floral arrangements for outdoor areas, draw inspiration from the views around you! Our front porch had such a spectacular Autumn Blaze maple tree in view of our dining area. It packs its own powerful punch, so I decided to play-down the color in the centerpiece and use more brownish tones. There is no need to compete when you can complement instead!
I hope this blog helps you create seasonal décor that lets you fully enjoy this Autumn season!
See you next time!
