DIY Autumn Floral Arrangements
DIY Autumn floral arrangements are a simple way to make your home fit the season!
Now that we are midway through November, there is no mistaking that late fall is in the air! The warmer October temperatures have given way to chilly nights and the leaves are falling all around our Midwest farm acreage. I am the one that clings to every last ounce of summer warmth, so this is the time of year my brain finally starts changing to fall and winter! Let me show you how my favorite tips for DIY Autumn floral arrangements!
Does this look familiar? It should! This arrangement stands tall on our French Country armoire in the family room. In my last floral arrangement post, I talked about using Styrofoam in the base to keep arrangements looking full. I like to browse my own inventory of florals and containers I have collected over the years before I get anything new. It is so much fun to find ways to reinvent old pieces as something new! And, that is one of my favorite things about faux florals- you never have to worry about them going bad!
I started with a green vintage tray from Sisters Garden and Bloom (side note: if you are ever in the Kalona/Iowa City area, you have to visit! It is my “comfort” shop full of vintage antiques and knick-knacks, so fun!). Then, I cut the Styrofoam to fit the bottom of the tray.
Now, the fun part! The secret to restoring faux florals to their freshest appearance is a good fluff! Take your time fluffing and repositioning stems until you are satisfied with how they look. Focus on the center of the arrangement first before moving outwards. You will want the arrangement to look great from all angles, so don’t forget about the back! I also like to add preserved eucalyptus to my arrangements because it adds a layer of authenticity with the scent of greenery.
Keep it Simple in the Kitchen
This time of year, your kitchen has enough going on. From holiday prep to lots of extra visitors, you want to keep the counters relatively clear! So, with a focus on simplicity and authenticity, I started with a crisp white vase. Varying lengths of faux snapdragons in beautiful autumnal colors combine with a few eucalyptus stems to add the perfect level of seasonal décor. I don’t know about your family, but no one is going to be staring at my florals when it is sharing space with a fresh apple pie!
To add texture and steal some focus away from that pie, I recommend including something like this wicker tray in your display.
Don’t Forget the Dining Room
I will find any excuse to use my grandmothers pitcher any season of the year! It works perfectly in this November display, housing randomly placed faux florals that give a “just pulled from the garden” vibe. Perfect for Thanksgiving! I added a gingham table runner, Vietri ceramic pumpkins and miniature candles to make the table complete. When it is time to serve a meal, I can leave the small décor items there and just place the floral arrangement off to the side!
Make Every Entrance Grand
We couldn’t forget about our back entryway! We use this entrance multiple times a day and it is often the one visitors will use. A nice floral arrangement greets everyone as they walk in the door and ties the whole home together. For this display, I used a vintage Majolica pitcher and placed more natural looking stems inside. It works perfectly with the Morris and Co. seat cushion fabric! (If you want to learn more about their fun prints, check out my last blog here!)
I hope this inspired you to dust off your collection and create something new for the season!
