How to Display Your Unique Art Collection
Art displays do not have to be conventional- embrace unique art collection displays!
Instead of keeping your favorite pieces in storage, let me show you my favorite way to display my own unique art collection- plates!
Incorporating art into my projects as well as my own home has always been a love of mine. Throughout the years, I have enjoyed all kinds of unique art collections. Whether it is a single family heirloom on display or, in my case, Majolica plates- nothing is off limits! As you can see above, my Majolica plates are perfectly suited for the Welsh cupboard in our family-dining room with the green pitcher situated in the middle adding some nice height! Luckily, the cupboard has grooves that keep the plates secure but, don’t worry if you aren’t so lucky! Later on, I will share some of my favorite ways to safely display your own collections. The niche that I designed for my Welsh cupboard was wide enough to hang more of my plate collection symmetrically on the side walls.
While I have always loved my Majolica plates, this is not the first collection my Welsh cupboard has held! I have also interchanged the plates seasonally like you see in the picture below. These white plates with Autumn-colored borders paired beautifully with a mix of recipe books and a white tureen on the top shelf. Just as fun as the Majolica, but with a sophisticated twist.
Safety First!
Not everyone will be so lucky to have grooves built in for plate storage. Simple easels that you can find on Amazon here (or here!) or in local craft stores work wonders! They will help the plates safely sit upright. Both of these styles are nearly invisible. Decorative easels seem fun but they distract from the unique art collection you are displaying!
Wall Art Utilization
Instead of leaving your favorite special art piece to collect dust, use it as a piece of wall art! You can enjoy it every time you walk by and so can everyone else!
One of my most favorite items is a plate handed down to me by my grandmother. She was handed it down by her own mother! This early 1900’s plate has a RS Prussia marking, open handles, and embossed leaves. Not only does it bring me joy, but it is so delicately beautiful on its own! I tied a satin ribbon securely to one handle and found the sweetest rosette wall hook at a local craft store to hang it from. I added to the display by painting the wall hook ivory with metallic accents and it hangs over my mahogany lingerie chest as a wonderful piece of art!
It is no secret that I love anything involving a blue and white color scheme! These antique Flow Blue plates work beautifully in this guest room. I just used wire plate hangers to keep them secure!
Why not share the fun with your bathrooms! The main bathroom in my 1923 farmhouse is mostly white and cream. The Flow Blue plates add the perfect pop above the counter! I tied it all together with faux blue wildflowers in a clear vase!
Where do you think you will experiment with your unique art collection next? Let me know!
