TRENDING: Morris & Co. Prints
Let’s start with a little background on the Englishman himself, William Morris.
He began designing and crafting his unique products in 1861. He combined Medieval art-style motifs with all things natural, including birds, leaves, and flowers. Typically, the backgrounds were a deep color to off-set the patterns. He exhibited his stained glass, fabrics, and wallpapers at an International Exhibition and quickly gained a following. He also taught himself how to weave tapestries and rugs and produced furniture. Some consider him the father of the arts and crafts movement!
Morris and Co. prints are popping up everywhere! Let me tell you why.
Have you been seeing these micro-printed designs in fabric, wallpaper, rugs, and tableware? These designs are simultaneously unique and nostalgic. Printed fabrics are often more trendy than timeless but Morris and Co. avoids that distinction because of their wide range of color schemes and lovely, nature centered prints.
How to use them in your home:
There is a Morris and Co. print for literally any project you could imagine. Contemporary, transitional, farmhouse, or traditional- there is something for you! If you are like me and have mostly neutral upholstery and rugs, these are perfect to use as a pop of color for your throw pillows or throw blankets. The print on my throw pillow in the picture above is “Strawberry Thief”. It is perfect for my farmhouse with the images of birds and foliage. Tossed in with a needlepoint geometric pillow and coordinating throw, they gave a whole new life to the room!
For my back entry, I chose brown and wheat-colored fabric, also “Strawberry Thief” for my window seat cushions.
I inspired my sister to use a blue leaf motif for her guest bedroom pillows. It complements our Grandmother’s tulip quilt so well!
More than just pillows!
Morris and Co. prints can be found in a number of tabletop accessories at stores like Pottery Barn and William Sonoma among others. This lovely setting is from William Sonoma and is so darling for the holidays!
The designs from Morris and Co. are so versatile and timeless, they’re impossible not to love!
